The rain falling on Memorial Day did not stop two groups of Jefferson residents from paying their respect for the true meaning of the day, to honor the nation's war dead and their families.

Military speakers attended ceremonies on both sides of town and both stressed the sacrifices made by military families during war. The Lake Hopatcong American Legion Post 245 hosted Master Sergeant Michele Royal, who is presently stationed at nearby Picatinny Arsenal.  An hour later the Milton American Legion Post 423 hosted Colonel Richard Hornstein, also stationed at Picatinny.
