Camp Jefferson will be open for public tours on two Sunday afternoons, March 24 and April 7. Families can learn firsthand what Jefferson Township’s 96-acre facility has to offer children in the 16th annual day camp program during the summer of 2019. The camp is situated in a safe and natural environment, easily accessible via Routes 15, 23, and 80 (81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong).

Children accompanied by their parents/guardians may visit any time between 1:00 and 4:00 on either day. Visitors can view a video and slide presentation from 2018, speak with the camp’s directors and several staff members, walk through the property, obtain brochures, and get information including how to register online. The first 50 families at each open house will receive a complimentary canvas tote bag.

Day camp is open to resident and non-resident children from age three (by June 26 and fully potty trained) through those entering 8th grade in September. The program will run for nine weeks from June 26 through August 23. An early registration discount of $30 per week is available through May 12.

Facilities include a spring-fed lake used for boating and fishing, open grass fields, amphitheater, fire pit with seating, numerous themed cabins, main community lodge with full kitchen, recreation hall, basketball courts, movie theater, picnic pavilion, high and low ropes courses, archery range, state-of-the-art playground, 40-foot rock climbing wall, and vertical playpen with a zip line (weather permitting).

Among the many games offered are ping pong, foosball, billiards, air hockey, tetherball, croquet, hopscotch, horseshoes, bocce, bubble soccer, shuffleboard, spikeball, pickleball, KanJam, Baggo, Trangleball, 9 Square in the Air, and ga-ga. Optional off-site trips and elective classes enhance the camp experience.

Prospective campers and their families can find additional information, including policies and prices, by visiting the township’s homepage at and clicking on the Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp link on the left. Parents are advised to view and print the 2019 Camp Activities Reference Guide and Camp Parent Worksheet and discuss options with their children before registering.

All registrations must be submitted online. Starting in mid-March, logon will be available at to begin the process. If assistance is required, call the Recreation Department office at 973-663-8404 (extension 4 or 5) or email
