Camp Jefferson will be open for public tours on two Sunday afternoons, March 25 and April 8. Families can learn firsthand what Jefferson Township’s 96-acre facility has to offer children in the 15th annual day camp program during the summer of 2018. The camp is situated in a safe and natural environment at 81 Weldon Road in Lake Hopatcong, easily accessible via Routes 80, 15, or 23.
The Recreation Department told The Jefferson Chronicle that children accompanied by their parents/guardians may visit any time between 1:00 and 4:00 on either day. Visitors can view a video and slide presentation from 2017, speak with the camp’s directors and several staff members, walk through the property, obtain brochures, and get information including how to register online. The first 50 families at each open house will receive a complimentary canvas tote bag.
Day camp is open to resident and non-resident children from age three (by June 25 and fully potty trained) through those entering 8th grade in September. The program will run for eight weeks from June 25 through August 17. An early registration discount of $30 per week is available through May 9.
Facilities include a spring-fed lake used for boating and fishing, open grass fields, amphitheater, fire pit with seating, numerous themed cabins, main community lodge with full kitchen, recreation hall, basketball courts, movie theater, picnic pavilion, high and low ropes courses, archery range, state-of-the-art playground, 40-foot rock climbing wall, and vertical playpen with a zip line (weather permitting).
Among the many games offered are ping pong, foosball, billiards, air hockey, tetherball, croquet, hopscotch, horseshoes, bocce, bubble soccer, shuffleboard, spikeball, KanJam, Baggo, Trangleball, and ga-ga. Optional off-site trips and elective classes enhance the camp experience.
Prospective campers and their families can find additional information, including policies and prices, by visiting the township’s homepage at www.jeffersontownship.net and clicking on the Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp link on the left. Parents are advised to view and print the 2018 Camp Activities Reference Guide and Camp Parent Worksheet and discuss options with their children before registering.
According to the Recreation Department, all registrations must be submitted online. Beginning in early March, logon will be available at https://register.communitypass.net/reg/index.cfm to begin the process. Call the Recreation Department office at 973-663-8404 (extension 4 or 5) or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org if assistance is required.
