The popular annual children’s fishing contest will be held on Saturday, July 14, kicking off the Jefferson Fest II food truck festival, concert, and fireworks event. The contest will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at the fishing education pond across the street from the high school (1010 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge).

All boys and girls up to 15 years of age may participate in the contest at no charge. Pre-registration is not necessary. Children must bring their own bait and fishing equipment, and the catch-and-release program will be in force.

The contest is again hosted by Trout Unlimited’s F. S. Burroughs North Jersey Chapter (www.nnjtu.org), continuing the tradition started many years ago by Bill Clark. Trout Unlimited members will be on hand to help children bait their lines and measure and weigh their catches. Prizes will be awarded for the first, second, and third largest fish caught in each age group. For additional information, email info@nnjtu.org.

Jefferson Fest II will begin officially at 5 p.m. at the high school fields. There will be food trucks, a DJ, a live performance by The Cameos, a fantastic fireworks display, and more.
