If you’re under 18, don’t plan on being out alone after 9 p.m. on Mischief Night or Halloween Night, based on Jefferson Township’s curfew ordinance.

The ordinance applies to Mischief Night October 30 and Halloween October 31, and prohibits anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian from being on any public streets or public place after 9 p.m.

This ordinance was enacted to curb vandalism on mischief night and to end trick or treating after 9 p.m. Many township neighborhoods receive a high volume of trick or treaters on Halloween and the police department has received numerous complaints over the years.

The penalty for breaking curfew could cost $200 for first offenders, and $500 for subsequent offenses, or a possible 10-day period of community service.
