This morning I turned two pages one physically and one metaphorically. Of course, the first one is easy as I turned the page on my calendar from May to June. The second one is a little more subtle coming with the end of the Jefferson Falcons participation in the NJSIAA playoffs. This will, for the most part put a temporary hold to our coverage of JTHS sports. There’s still the post-season awards to be handed out for all-county conference, section and possibly even state for the various athletes who’ve made the past 2 1/2 months so thrilling and exhilarating with personal and team milestones seemingly being rewritten every few days. As the awards are announced, you’ll read about them here in The Jefferson Chronicle but don’t stray too far from this page because we’ll have more for you to read in the interim.
Today begins our coverage of local hunting and fishing with a new column, Jefferson Woods and Water. We’ll delve deeper into recreational sports and bring back our popular Q&As with local people of interest and there’s even more planned. In fact I’d like to take this opportunity to ask some of you for help.
Even though a student may graduate from JTHS, they remain a Falcon forever and that includes athletes. If you are the parent or friend of someone who has continued their athletic career at the college or university level after playing for JTHS, we’d love to know about them and keep the community up to date on this next exciting phase of their endeavors. Of course if you have any other comments or questions related to sports and community activities please let me know about them too. I can’t guarantee I can answer every question or cover every event but I’ll do my best. My email address is at the bottom of this column so please get in touch with me.
As I type this I’m looking at the Fall Sports Schedule from JTHS and it appears we’ll be back in action in about 78 or so days with the beginning of Fall Sports media days, pre season scrimmages and more. Then before you know it, it’ll be time to dust off your side line chairs and bleacher cushions, break out your Falcons gear and loosen up your vocal chords for another season of cheering on the various Jefferson sports teams to another exciting successful season.
