First Annual Lake Shawnee Superheroes Family-Friendly Run/Walk @ Lake Shawnee

The first annual Lake Shawnee Superheroes family-friendly event takes place on Saturday morning, March 30. Three different races offer participants a choice of challenges: 3-mile run/walk, 6-mile run, or 9-mile run. The start time for all races is 9:00. Onsite registration and chip pick-up is from 7:30-8:45.

The three beautiful and challenging certified timed courses will be clearly marked, well organized, and timed by NJ Trail Series using the MYLAPS ProChip Timing System. Course maps can be viewed at lakeshawneeclub.org.

Team and individual awards will be presented at the completion of the race to the top three men and women overall, first-place male and female in seven age categories, and first five kids age 12 and under. Additional awards will be given for the largest team pre-registered by March 16, the team with the fastest overall time, and best costumes.

The Lake Shawnee area thrives on volunteerism and service toward others – a community of real superheroes. These traits are nurtured at an early age and cultivated over the years. A new Lake Shawnee Scholarship, supported solely through 100% of the proceeds from the annual race, is open to anyone in Jefferson Township who exemplifies these qualities. Applications for the inaugural scholarship will be available through the high school.

Project Speak Out/A Girl Scout Gold Award and JT Connect Present "Suicide: The Ripple Effect" @ Jefferson Township High School | Sparta Township | New Jersey | United States

A local Girl Scout, Brittany Boetticher, has teamed with the JTConnect township organization to present a feature-length documentary focusing on the devastating effects of suicide. The film, titled Suicide: The Ripple Effect, also shows the positive ripple effects of advocacy, inspiration, and hope that are helping millions to heal and stay alive.

The film highlights the story of Kevin Hines, who attempted to take his life at age 19 by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Kevin is now a world-renowned mental health advocate, motivational speaker, and author who travels the globe with his message of hope, recovery, and wellness.

The free film showing is part of Project Speak Out, which is Brittany’s Girl Scout Gold Award activity. “I am committed to educate and raise awareness about suicide prevention,” she said.

The presentation is on Tuesday, April 2, at 7:00 p.m. in Jefferson Township High School (1010 Weldon Road). For more information, contact Brittany at 973-527-5703 or brittany.boetticher@gmail.com.
