As the Jefferson Falcons football team prepares for the Homecoming game against Montville this coming Friday, I took the opportunity to talk to head coach Jerry Venturino to learn his final thoughts about last Friday’s 35-7 loss to Parsippany Hills and how the Falcons will be preparing to face the Mustangs this week.

Q: Coach Venturino, do you have any final words about the Parsippany Hills game?

Coach Venturino: “Our kids played hard and I’m proud of their effort. The game was closer than the final score indicated but the only stat that matters is a ‘W’. We’ve learned from our mistakes and we’ll move on”.

Q: What can Falcon Nation expect from Montville?

Coach Venturino: They’re athletic with good team speed. We can’t take them for granted. If you sleep on them they’ll make you pay. They run a spread offense, their QB runs and throws well and they have good overall talent across the board.

They run multiple defenses so it’s hard to say what to expect and we’ll prepare for anything.  We’ll follow our rules and assignments and execute the play. It’s important to control the line of scrimmage and win our 1-on-1 match-ups.”

Kickoff Friday night is 7 p.m. but as it’s the big Homecoming game you might want to allow extra time for traffic and try to arrive early and enjoy the pre-game pageantry with the JTHS Marching Band and everything else that makes Homecoming such a special event.
