Residents with gardening loving moms might want to check out spring plants that are also good for the environment. The Lake Hopatcong Foundation’s 2nd annual native plant sale is tomorrow – Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. – at the Lake Hopatcong Train Station (125 Landing Road, Landing).
Native plants are those that occur naturally in a region in which they evolved. They are easier on the environment because they are adapted to the local landscape and generally require less water and little maintenance after they are established. Native plants also provide essential habitat and food for birds, native bees, butterflies, bats, and many mammals. Native plants not only help wildlife, but also create a healthier place for communities.
The cash-only sale will include a large variety of quart-size plants, all native to New Jersey. For more information about the varieties of plants for sale tomorrow, visit https://lakehopatcongfoundation.org/native-plant-sale-2018-2/.
