On Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at approximately 4:29 p.m., police officer James Stokes responded to a motor vehicle crash, which occurred on Berkshire Valley Road in the area between Solar Road and Taylor Road.
The initial investigation revealed Scott Breitz, 21, of Jefferson Township was traveling West on Berkshire Valley Road, in a 1990 Mercedes 560. Alicia Montello, 25, of Stockholm was traveling East on Berkshire Valley Road, in a Toyota Corolla. Darlene Gindhart, 52, of Stockholm, and Alicia’s mother were passengers in Alicia’s vehicle.
Alicia’s vehicle was struck by Breitz’s vehicle, in a head-on type collision; however the crash is still under investigation by officer Roger Davis and detective/sergeant Sean Krater.
Alicia Montello and Darlene Gindhart were both pronounced dead at the scene. Scott Breitz was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Jefferson Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Jefferson Township Fire Co. #1 and 2, and the Milton First Aid Squad coordinated with this incident. Berkshire Valley was closed for over three hours to complete the investigation.
This matter is still under investigation by officer Roger Davis. Any witnesses to this incident should contact officer Davis at 973-697-1300.
