The Morris County Office of Emergency Management has announced that Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has activated the residential water and ice program. Residents who are JCP&L customers and are currently without power can go to any of the locations below to get water and or ice:
- ACME, 5734 Berkshire Valley Road in Oak Ridge*
- ShopRite, 314 Route 15 in Wharton
- ShopRite, 437 Route 46 in Rockaway
- ShopRite, 270 Route 23 North in Franklin
*Editor’s Note: The ACME location in Oak Ridge has no power at the time of publishing, and as such, ice is not available. Although, water is available.
Power has been restored to more than 75,000 customers who lost power following yesterday’s massive winter storm that impacted the Mid-Atlantic region, according to JCP&L.
Currently, more than 130,000 customers remain out of service. The the hardest hit counties include Hunterdon, Morris, Sussex and Warren in northern New Jersey. Today, JCP&L crews are evaluating damage and isolating damaged equipment to enable repairs to be made.
“We want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we continue to work around the clock to safely restore their service,” said Jim Fakult, president of JCP&L. “The storm’s heavy wet snow, driving rains and gusting winds caused serious damage to equipment. We have more than 200 damaged poles and over 1,000 spans of downed wire.”
Customers are reminded to stay away from downed power lines, assume any downed wire is carrying electricity and call JCP&L, police or fire departments to report them.
