Summer in Jefferson is not complete without Jefferson Fest. The 2018 event is scheduled for Saturday, July 14, on the high school field (1010 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge). The annual summer celebration is sponsored by the township and the Jefferson Arts Committee.

The new format, initiated last year, retains some old favorites from the three-decade Jefferson Township Day. As always, there will be plenty of food trucks, a concert, and magnificent fireworks.

Preliminary events include the annual youth fishing derby for kids under 15, hosted by Trout Unlimited’s Fred S. Burroughs North Jersey Chapter. Registration starts at noon at the Weldon Road fishing education pond directly across the road from the high school.

Continuing another longstanding event, the Jefferson Arts Committee (JAC) is sponsoring the 14th annual Irish road bowling tournament beginning at 3:00. The “alley” is Catholic Charities Way off Weldon Road at the home of Wiegand Farms (Department for Persons with Disabilities facility). Teams will vie to complete the course.

The second annual Jefferson Fest officially begins at 5:00 when DJ Earl Heller of Sound Solutions Entertainment gets the celebration going. As he entertains the crowd and amuses the children, a variety of food trucks will be open at 5:30.

The Cameos will take the main stage at 7:15 for a two-hour concert. The talented eight-member group performs unique renditions of the most popular songs of the 1950s-1970s: early rock and roll, doo-wop, and Motown.

The JAC will sell 50/50 raffle tickets for a drawing at 9:20. Food trucks will continue offering delicious refreshments throughout the evening.

All eyes will be raised to the sky at 9:30 for a spectacular fireworks display staged and choreographed by Interstate Fireworks. The company has presented its popular show in Jefferson Township for more than two decades.

Admission and parking (including handicapped) are free throughout the event. Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Note that the following items are absolutely prohibited: alcohol, smoking, drugs, fireworks, bicycles, pets or animals of any kind, large coolers, backpacks, and drones.

Additional details and specific schedules will be released shortly online at and the Jefferson Arts Committee’s Facebook page. For questions or comments, email or call 973-697-2032 or 973-697-3828.
