The Rutgers SAFETY Clinic – Sports Awareness for Educating Today’s Youth – will be held on Wednesday, April 11, from 6:45-10:00 in the Jefferson Township Municipal Building (1033 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong). All township and out-of-town volunteer sports coaches are invited to attend. Pre-registration is required by Friday, April 11, at 4:00. The program, hosted by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department, is presented by the Youth Sports Research Council (YSRC) in cooperation with the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association.
The State of New Jersey requires volunteer coaches to attend a “safety orientation and training skills program” in order to be eligible for civil immunity protection provided by the Little League Law (NJSA 2A:62A-6 et. seq.) The curriculum for this clinic is based upon the Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs (NJAC 5:52) and has been tested in court as having met the standards.
Class topics include Legal Aspects of Coaching, Psychological Aspects of Coaching, General Coaching Concepts, Training and Conditioning of Athletes, and Medical/First Aid Aspects of Coaching. Volunteer coaches who attend the program will receive The Coaches’ Reference Manual (4th edition), a certification card acknowledging attendance, and permanent registration with the Rutgers YSRC.
Registration must be completed online. Log on to www.communitypass.net and follow the prompts to access or set up an account. An email confirmation will be sent after registration and payment. Note: The class is free for Jefferson Township coaches and $31 for out-of-town coaches. For registration assistance, contact the Recreation office at 973-663-8404 x4 or email@example.com.
