In celebration of Earth Day, Jefferson’s annual volunteer cleanup event will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon. Teams will be assigned to pick up debris along township roads, on trails, and in parks.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, individually and in groups. Young volunteers – such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and youth groups – will be assigned areas around parks, fields, or schools.

Other areas that need attention include Cozy Lake Road, Dover-Milton Road, Russia Road, Ridge Road near Ackerson Field, Chamberlain Road near Water’s Edge, Berkshire Valley Road near Longwood Lake, Lower Berkshire Valley Road near the intersection with Minnisink Road, Prospect Point Road near the intersection with Northwood Road, and Hellers Lane.

To register, call Patty Romano by April 24 at 973-208-3639. If April 27 is not workable for prospective volunteers, they can arrange to participate before or after that date.

On the cleanup day, meet at the Department of Public Works office (4 Sparta Mountain Road, Oak Ridge – just off Weldon Road) between 8:00 and 8:45 a.m. to enjoy a light breakfast. Then pick up supplies (gloves, bags, vest) and head out to the assigned area. DPW employees will pick up the collected trash and recycling left on the sides of roads beginning Monday, April 29.

The assistance of volunteers is appreciated to help keep Jefferson Township a clean, litter-free community.
