Every year the JTHS varsity cheer team hosts the ‘Mr. Jefferson’ event where boys are voted as nominees to dress as girls and put on a show to raise money for the team. Each year has proven to be a huge success in raising money for the school.

This year the event opened as normal with the opening ceremony where the nominees were introduced. This year the nominees were: Michael Fleming, Jason Boucher, Shane Connolly, Steven Breeman, JJ Mallory, Jake Carnevale, Cheech Johnson, Tarik Shoukry, Nick Montone, Anthony Gambuti, Bobby Ortense, Bailey Gondola, Stefan Tisma, Paul Monaco, Dylan Jeffery, Joe D’Alia, Joe Batelli, Richie Botti, Luke Foth, Kevin Hordyk, Pat Burns, Nico Celentano, Matt Johnson, Collin Miller, Nate Thomson, Max Bilyk, John Liaci, Christian Connolly, Larry Dibiase and Nico Salus.

Events continued where the boys performed choreographed dances, ripped their clothes and even read Dr. Seuss books. All acts were separated by a varsity cheerleader telling jokes.

The top 16 were decided by judges to be: Michael Fleming, Jason Boucher, Shane Connolly, Steven Breeman, JJ Mallory, Jake Carnevale, Cheech Johnson, Nick Montone, Anthony Gambuti, Bobby Ortense, Stefan Tisma, Paul Monaco, Joe Batelli, Richie Botti, Luke Foth and Pat Burns.

Top 10 were then announced to be: Jake Carnevale, Michael Fleming, JJ Mallory, Cheech Johnson, Luke Foth, Shane Connolly, Stefan Tisma, Bobby Ortense, Paul Monaco and Nick Montone. The boys then answered “funny questions” and afterwards the cheerleaders performed a routine.

The 5 finalists were Jake Carnevale, Michael Fleming, Luke Foth, Shane Connolly, Bobby Ortense and Paul Monaco. These boys performed a couples dance and then were asked to answer what sportsmanship meant to them.

The winner for this year was then announced to be JTHS senior Michael Fleming.

Amanda Ventre is a senior at Jefferson Township High School. She's involved in multiple honor societies, and officer positions in clubs including student government and environmental club. She spends her free time with a good book, studying and volunteering for causes she's passionate about.
