The Jefferson Township Recreation Department’s karate program will begin its next 10-week session on Monday, September 9, and continue through Monday, November 18, with no class on Monday, November 4. The program is open to school-age children, including kindergarteners, as well as adults.
The karate program has been running for 13 years through the Recreation Department, with instructors from the Jersey Judo Karate Academy of Kenvil headed by Sensei Rick Norris, a kudan (9th degree black belt). The staff includes more than 50 certified, fully trained black belts teaching the Isshinryu style, an authentic Asian martial art form. Students learn skills that help to develop coordination, balance, posture, endurance, self-confidence, and discipline.
Classes are held in the Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson (81 Weldon Road) from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for grades K-4 and 7:30-8:30 for grade 5 through adult. The program fee is $55 per person with a discount of $5 for each enrolled sibling.
Registration must be completed online through Community Pass. Visit www.communitypass.net and use Jefferson Township as the community/organization. Those with existing Community Pass accounts should enter their login and password, choose the activity under the season “2019 Karate for Adults and Children,” register, and pay the class fee.
