The Knee Deep Club will hold a pickerel fishing contest on Lake Hopatcong on Sunday, April 22. The contest will begin at 5:00 AM and conclude at 4:00 PM. The entry fee of $20 for Knee Deep Club members and $25 for non-members must be submitted with the official contest entry form.

Entry forms are available online at and at the club’s official weigh stations: Dow’s Boat Rental on Nolan’s Point in Lake Hopatcong and Lake’s End Marina on Lakeside Boulevard in Landing. Mail-in entries must be received by Friday, April 20; in-person entries can be made until 8:00 AM on the day of the contest. Complete contest rules may be found on the entry form. For more information, call 973-663-3826.

A payout of 80% of entry fees will go to the anglers weighing in the three heaviest pickerel. Anglers catching the fourth, fifth, and sixth heaviest pickerel will each receive a $20 gift certificate. Top finishers will be based on weight, and any ties will be broken according to which fish was entered first.

According to Richard Everett of the Knee Deep Club, Lake Hopatcong offers excellent fishing opportunities. The all-time record pickerel is 6 lb. 9 oz., and the current Knee Deep Club record is 5 lb. 12 oz. The club has been supporting fishing on the lake since August 30, 1946, and currently has more than 850 members. Check the website ( for more information about the club.
