Alexis Verdes and Julia Potter, both 2019 Jefferson Township High School graduates, won scholarships awarded by the Jefferson Township Public Library.

Verdes won the $500 Jeanne Craig scholarship. She will attend Kutztown University in Kutztown PA. Potter won the $250.00 Rose Lange scholarship. She will be attending the Artistic Academy in Morris Plains, NJ.

Applicants for the scholarship wrote essays on the role the public library plays in the growth and development of individuals and communities.  This year the Trustees received over 30 essays.

In her essay, Verdes wrote about the stabilizing influence of the library when her family unexpectedly moved to Jefferson. Potter wrote about the comfort and security she and her found in the library during crash of the housing market.

The trustees selected Verdes and Potter for their clear articulation and awareness of the benefits of the public library in their lives.

The scholarships honor the contributions of Jeanne Craig and Rose Lange, long time volunteers and trustees of the library. Combined, both trustees volunteered and served the library for more than 50 years. Lange still serves as a Library Trustee.

The Jefferson Township Public Library is located at 1031 Weldon Road in Jefferson. The library is open Monday – Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
