Mayor Russell Felter discussed changes to the Fire Department, ordinance availability online was questioned, and Town Council members addressed mental health issues and library improvements at the Town Council meeting on Wednesday, October 18.

Mayor Russell Felter started the meeting by swearing in Connor MacDonald as a firefighter for Fire Company #1. He later told the Council that Fire Company #1 is looking for some equipment. Mayor Felter was impressed with their research into the best equipment and its necessity and asked the Council to set up a meeting with them soon.

A resident of the community, Jayson Kohud, asked the Town Council to consider posting ordinances that are being discussed before the meeting online. They thought this may be a good idea and would look into doing this.

The Jefferson Township Library, according to Councilman Robert Birmingham, are planning on paying for a subscription to Kanopy, a movie streaming service, which will be open for public use. The Library Board will complete the purchase soon.

Council President Debi Merz announced that there will be a mental health awareness conference on November 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Morristown Medical Center. The purpose of the event is to provide information on prevention, treatment, and recovery and to promote a stigma-free environment for individuals suffering with mental illnesses and addiction throughout Morris County.
