High school dual-sport star Matt “Bam” Johnson has been nominated to receive the Heart of a Giant Award. Johnson, a senior who has been the varsity starting quarterback since his junior year following his brother’s reign, has started the new year off strong. In the first game of the young season, he threw for 246 yards and five passing touchdowns.

However, Johnson’s excellence goes far beyond the football field. The scholar-athlete also ranks toward the top of his class. “It’s a great honor,” he said about the award. “I am very thankful that Coach V [Venturino] views me in a special way and felt I deserved such an honor.”

According to the sponsor, USA Football, “Giants don’t have to be tall.” The organization seeks to recognize players from the tri-state area whose character, dedication, work ethic, and passion for the game inspire their teammates.
