Recognize Rights of All County Residents to Housing Opportunities

The Morris County Freeholders have proclaimed April 2018 Fair Housing Month in Morris County to mark the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act. This federal law mandates equal housing opportunities for all residents.

“It is most appropriate to call public attention to the fact that all Americans have a right to fair housing opportunities,” said Deputy Freeholder Director Christine Myers. “But many residents in our state and nation, and even some here in Morris County, do not have adequate housing for themselves and their families.”

Freeholder Kathy DeFillippo, the board’s liaison on human services issues, added: “The right to live where you choose, to raise a family and own a home in dignity, without fear of discrimination is a fundamental right to all of our residents.”

The proclamation was issued at the March 28 freeholder work session in Morristown. For more information on fair/affordable housing in Morris County, visit www.hcdnnj.org/morrishousingalliance or humanrelations.morriscountynj.gov/committees/housing-committee.
