Limited Edition Features Illustration and Description

The Ford Mansion is highlighted on Morris County’s 2018 history-related holiday ornament.

The exquisite glass ornament features on one side an illustration of the Ford Mansion in Morristown, where General George Washington and his top aides had offices and quarters during the record-breaking bitterly cold and snowy winter of 1779-80. Washington hired one of the military bands to play music at the headquarters at a cost of 15 pounds.

The following text is on the opposite side of the ornament: “The Ford Mansion, Morristown, NJ. It was here that Gen. George and Martha Washington spent the Christmas of 1779, when Morristown served as the army’s winter headquarters.”
