Although the summer is beginning to wind down and people are returning from their vacations away, the adventures don’t have to end. There are plenty of places to explore right in town. One of the many locations to satisfy a desire for exploration and adventure is Headley Overlook, one of the many places to go in Mahlon Dickerson.
Headley Overlook can be accessed via several different routes within Mahlon Dickerson. For those who are more inclined to hike a longer trail, there are 7.5- and 5-mile paths available. For those who are new to hiking, a 3.8-mile relatively easy trail is available. For people who just want to get to the view as quickly as possible, there is a super short path that starts at the picnic lot and takes only 10-15 minutes to complete. All of the available trails can be found at the NJ Hiking website: https://www.njhiking.com/nj-hikes-mahlon-dickerson-headley-overlook/.
Regardless of the path taken, the view is worth the climb. High in the mountains, Headley Overlook offers a breathtaking view of a stretch of trees that is especially beautiful to look at during the fall. Beyond the trees, a view of Lake Hopatcong in the distance completes the landscape.
The variety of trail options makes this hike almost perfect for anyone of any age, and the view can be appreciated by all.
