A benefit event will take place on Saturday, October 13, from 5-9 p.m. at the American Legion in Newton (20 Yates Avenue). A donation of $20 includes good food, a cash bar, and music. Children are welcome.

Proceeds from the event will benefit 26-year-old Dakota Mergott-Ferrone, a passenger in a serious motorcycle accident on Berkshire Valley Road on August 1. (See related story here.) She suffered a traumatic brain injury, numerous broken bones, and internal damages to her stomach, pancreas, and liver. The driver of the motorcycle, Craig Michaels, also suffered severe injuries. He worked at J Towne Tavern in Lake Hopatcong.

In addition to attending the benefit event, supporters may contribute to Mergott-Ferrone’s recovery via a GoFundMe page: www.gofundme.com/dakotas-road-to-recovery.
