No Strings a Cappella, a vocal group without instruments, will be in full holiday spirit at the annual Christmas in the Village event. The concert takes place at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church (153 Milton Road, Oak Ridge) at 12:30 on Saturday, December 1. The singers mix contemporary and traditional holiday music and have a lot of fun along the way. Admission is free.

No Strings a Cappella was formed five years ago. Most of the members had sung together for years with the Zephyr Vocal Ensemble. When Zephyr took a hiatus from performing in the summer of 2013, some of the singers decided to form a new group. Their emphasis is on performing a mixed repertoire of popular, jazz, and classical music – not only on the concert stage, but also in less formal settings.

This innovative, 10-member ensemble demonstrates its upbeat mix of popular songs, jazz, spirituals, and classical pieces, all performed with verve and enthusiasm, in a CD released last year; listen to it at https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/nostringsacappella. In an effort to reach more people in more places with their unique music, the members are excited to bring their zest for singing to audiences in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey – including here in Jefferson Township.
