A pedestrian crossing Route 15 North, just north of Berkshire Valley Road, was struck by a motor vehicle on Saturday, January 26. The victim was transported to St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover, where she was pronounced dead.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Jefferson Township Police Corporal Matthew Cannarozzi responded to the site. His on-scene investigation revealed that Anne Belcastro, 64, of Lake Hopatcong had been hit by a motor vehicle operated by Thomas Redburn, 47, of Andover as she was walking across the highway.

Preliminary investigation by Cannarozzi and Detective Eric Sudak determined that Belcastro was a passenger in a motor vehicle stopped at the Berkshire Valley Road and Route 15 North intersection. She had exited the vehicle and walked in a westerly direction across Route 15 North when she was struck. Redburn’s vehicle had a green light.

Investigation is ongoing by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Jefferson Township Traffic Safety and Detective Bureaus. Assistance was provided by Jefferson Township Fire Department Company 2, Milton First Aid Squad, Jefferson Township Office of Emergency Management, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris County Sheriff’s Office CIS, Picatinny Arsenal Police Department, and New Jersey Department of Transportation.
