Justin McGriff, 22, of Orange, NJ was arrested on May 18 on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon: handgun, unlawful possession of an assault firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon or device, and two counts possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin and xanax).

Jefferson Township police officers responded to a report of an altercation between two persons outside of a residence on Cozy Lake Road.  The officers were advised that one of the individuals involved, who had left the scene, was in possession of a handgun. That individual, later identified as McGriff, was located and found to be carrying a handgun in his waistband.  Further investigation revealed that McGriff was also in possession of an illegal assault MAC 10 firearm, an illegal extended magazine, heroin, and unprescribed xanax pills.

McGriff was arrested and taken into custody. He was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a court hearing.
