On February 23, at approximately 9:28 a.m., the Jefferson Township Police Department received a report of a structure fire at 248-A Espanong Road in Lake Hopatcong.

The Jefferson Chronicle was notified via email that Officer John Ondish responded and found a large detached garage engulfed in flames. The sole occupant was out of the garage and no one was injured.

Jefferson Township Fire Companies 1 and 2 and the Jefferson Township Rescue Squad were joined by fire departments from Mt. Arlington, Sparta, and Picatinny Arsenal, in addition to the Morris County Hazmat Team. The fire was brought under control at about 10:30 a.m.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit also responded. The cause of the fire, which is under investigation, appears to be connected with work being conducted in the garage.
