On Sunday, September 16, the Jefferson Township Police Department responded to two local emergencies.

Motorcycle Accident

A vehicle attempting to make a left turn from 53 Schoolhouse Road (Bowling Green Golf Club) onto Schoolhouse Road struck a motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 17-year-old male from Jefferson, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the car is a resident of Fort Lee.

Structure Fire

At approximately 6:19 p.m., police received a report of a structure fire at 128 Prospect Point Road in Lake Hopatcong.

Upon arrival, Officer Robert Coyle found a detached garage engulfed in flames and smoke. All occupants were out of the garage, and no one was injured.

Jefferson Township Fire Companies 1 and 2, Jefferson Rescue Squad, and Picatinny Fire responded and brought the fire under control at about 6:53 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Detective Bureau. The origin appears to be connected to mechanical work being done on a vehicle inside the garage.
