Two pedestrians were killed during an accident on Route 23 on Friday morning, police said.

On Friday, July 28, 2017, at approximately 5 a.m., Officer Ryan McGowan responded to a motor vehicle crash, which occurred on Route 23 South in the area of Oak Ridge Road.

The initial investigation revealed Jeffery Carr, 48, from Hamburg, was traveling on Route 23 South operating a GMC pick-up truck. His vehicle struck two pedestrians who were crossing Route 23 in the area of 2910 Route 23 South, Crystal Brook Residence.

Robert Coward, 48, from Newton, was also traveling on Route 23 South operating a GMC Pick-up truck. His vehicle also struck both pedestrians.

Both pedestrians were coming back from Dunkin’ Donuts walking south on Route 23 South. When crossing the highway, both were struck in the left lane, throwing them into the right lane, again causing them to be struck by another vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrians were identified as David Rackley, 50, from Long Valley, New Jersey and Andrei Gross, 70, of Madison, New Jersey.
