Sewage main work will close a section of Ridge Road in Jefferson to all traffic from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays beginning Tuesday, August 7.

The construction on the sewer force main (pressure sewer) is expected to last approximately three weeks. It will involve an area of about 2,000 feet on Ridge Road from Berkshire Valley Road to the easterly intersection of White Rock Boulevard.

Force mains are pipelines that convey wastewater under pressure to a discharge point. According to Edward Haack, township engineer, the state decided to close down the Moosepac sewage treatment facility near the Water’s Edge development on Chamberlain Road, necessitating a transfer of the sewage to the White Rock treatment facility on Mirror Place.

Police will be on site to direct traffic. Motorists traveling east on Ridge Road can turn onto either Russia or Schoolhouse Road and then onto Dover-Milton Road. Motorists traveling west on Ridge Road can turn onto Milton or Dover-Milton to reach Schoolhouse or Russia Road.

Haack noted that the schedule was carefully designed to complete the work prior to Labor Day in order to minimize inconvenience to drivers. The road is expected to be reopened before school starts in September.
