Two $1,000 scholarships are available to high school seniors headed for college or trade school who reside (year-round or seasonally) in one of the four towns that surround Lake Hopatcong – Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mt. Arlington, or Roxbury. The 2018 Scholarship Program is sponsored by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation.

“The Lake Hopatcong Foundation is dedicated to supporting the youth in our community,” said acting executive director Donna Macalle-Holly. “By investing in their education, we are also investing in the future of Lake Hopatcong and all our valuable freshwater resources.”

The scholarships will be awarded in the following categories, each of which relates to the work of the Foundation and its mission:

The Lake Environment: For students who plan to study environmental science, environmental policy, ecology, or a similar field that focuses on the natural world and environmental conservation.

The Lake Experience: For students who plan to enter a line of work related to the lake experience such as public safety, marine trade, aquatic athletics, or a similar field.

Past recipients have used their scholarships to assist in obtaining degrees in environmental science, marine biology, environmental law, hospitality management, and marine engineering. Applications can be downloaded at and must be submitted to the foundation by Tuesday, May 1.
