Events Tackle Mental Illness and Addictions – Offer Hope for Recovery

Morris County is “celebrating’’ a Stigma-Free October with a host of events featuring hope and assistance to people dealing with mental illness and/or addictions. The goal is to help them into treatment and recovery. Jefferson is one of 34 towns that are members of the countywide Stigma-Free initiative. (See listing under October 13 below.)

Many organizations are hosting inspiring and fun-filled events that will bring people together to help eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness and substance use/abuse through creative expression, education, and resources. The full calendar is online at

All county residents are urged to take the Stigma-Free individual pledge as a show of support for the efforts of many nonprofit providers, caring mental health and social workers, nurses and doctors, and law enforcement professionals who work every day – mostly in anonymity – to deal with mental illness and addictions.
