Local police officers held their second annual Putt with the Police benefit on Friday, September 28. The event took place at the Lake Hopatcong Golf Club on Nolan’s Point. The afternoon rain gave way to a brilliant, sunny fall evening that welcomed 55 golfers ages 8-14 along with several of Jefferson Township’s finest.
The benefit event supports the police department’s drug resistance education program (DARE). It was organized by Erin Ackerly, records clerk in the police department, and Chris Fabian, school resource officer in the department’s Community Services Bureau.
Many parents enjoyed their night off by dining at one of the nearby restaurants while their children ate and golfed with the police officers. The children’s evening started with a lakeside dinner of hot dogs and pasta with sauce before they headed onto the golf course. Foursomes met on the 18-hole course with the police officers. There were several holes-in-one and lots of laughter.
The evening was sponsored by Bonded Oil, and the company also provided prizes for the children. Several holes were sponsored by Gatwyns II, Atlantic Communications, and individual donors. Two local restaurants, Alice’s and The Windlass, donated 20 percent of their proceeds from the evening to the DARE program.
