A deadly three-vehicle crash occurred on Monday evening, January 14, on Green Pond Road near Deerhaven Lane. At approximately 9:15 p.m., police officers Michael Ondish and Mathew Saparito arrived at the site and observed a silver 2003 Ford Taurus in flames. Ondish doused the flames with a fire extinguisher.

The driver, Katelynn Campbell, 25, of Highland Lakes, was inside the vehicle at the time. She was medevaced to Hackensack University Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

A black 2015 Subaru Impreza was also involved in the accident. The driver, Ashleigh Boissonault, 36, of Budd Lake, had serious injuries and was medevaced to Morristown Medical Center.

The third vehicle in the crash was a white 2016 Nissan Rogue. The driver and passenger (Elizabeth Salomon, 51, and Amanda Salomon, 19, both of Butler) were not injured.

A preliminary investigation by traffic safety officer Rodger Davis, detective sergeant Sean Krater, and Ondish revealed that Campbell was traveling southwest on Green Pond Road toward Route 80. The other two vehicles were traveling in the opposite direction toward Route 23.

Campbell’s vehicle crossed into the opposite lane of travel and struck Boissonault’s vehicle head on, causing it to leave the roadway and roll over into an embankment. Campbell’s vehicle then started to roll over and struck Salomon’s car head on.

Onsite assistance was provided by the Milton First Aid Squad, Jefferson Township Rescue Squad, Fire Companies #1 and #2, and Jefferson Office of Emergency Management. The accident is under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Jefferson Township Traffic Safety.
