Friday, September 14, Kickoff at 7 p.m.

There’s no time for the Jefferson Township High School Falcons football team to rest on its laurels after last week’s 10-6 win at High Point Regional. This Friday night, the Mount Olive Marauders visit Jefferson with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Mount Olive opened its season in a big way last week, crushing Chatham 35-9 in Mount Olive.

Jefferson coach Jerry Venturino gave The Jefferson Chronicle some final thoughts on the Falcons’ win over High Point and a preview of what to expect against Mount Olive.

Venturino praised his team for last week’s win by saying he was “impressed with our players’ gutsy performance.” As for this week, he’s feeling pretty good with the preparation so far. “Our kids are focused, the game plan is in, we’ve executed in practice, and we’re ready to roll.”

Regarding the visiting Marauders’ offense, Venturino observed that “they like to play in space at a high tempo. Their quarterback is elusive with a strong arm and they have one particular running back who is very athletic.” On defense, fans can look for Mount Olive to play aggressively and run to the ball well.

When asked for some final words about the upcoming contest, the coach explained, “Our kids know what’s expected of them this week. They’re going to have to grind out another gutsy win.”
