A major winter snow and ice storm is expected to descend on Saturday and Sunday, January 19-20. Jefferson Township’s Office of Emergency Management cautions residents and visitors to be aware of the following points:

  • The winter storm could produce major icing.
  • Those who experience loss of power or downed wires should call JCP&L at 888-544-4877.
  • Stay away from downed wires.
  • Stay off the roads during the storm to give crews time to clear them.
  • Note that the Department of Public Works will leave some snow accumulation on the roads to enable easier clearing following the ice storm.
  • Local ordinance prohibits parking on township roads when they are snow covered and during plowing operations.
  • Ensure that generator exhaust is properly vented away from windows and doors.
  • Check on elderly neighbors.

Additional alert messages will be sent by the Office of Emergency Management as needed.
