The Jefferson Youth Cross Country program will be offered for the 10th season to township students in grades 1 through 8. The program is sponsored by the Recreation Department.
The participation fee of $40 per child covers league fees, event participation, and a team T-shirt. Registration is due by September 2; make checks payable to the Township of Jefferson. Late registrations will incur an additional $10 fee. Registrations must be processed by the Recreation Department and cannot be given to the coaches.
To prepare for the fall season, practices will begin on Tuesday, August 13, at the high school’s track and cross country course. Returning head coaches James and Jill Jablonski will hold practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. for approximately one hour unless specified otherwise. The time will be adjusted later in the season to accommodate earlier nightfall.
All meets will take place on Sundays at 9 a.m., tentatively starting September 8 and continuing through October 27. All meets are approximately one hour at Central Park of Morris County (the former Greystone complex at 91 Central Avenue, Morris Plains, www.morrisparks.net/aspparks/centralmain.asp). Qualifying individuals and teams will take part in the New Jersey State Cross Country Meet in early November (date and location TBA).
Volunteers age 18 and older are needed to assist with team activities. Interested adults can fill in the volunteer section of their child’s registration form or contact the coaches directly to volunteer by providing their name, phone, and email.
