All cats in Jefferson must be licensed by the age of seven months. In addition, state law mandates that all cats be vaccinated against rabies (unless the owner presents written certification from a licensed veterinarian that the cat cannot be vaccinated due to a medical condition or course of therapy). Note that a license will not be issued if the rabies vaccination expires during the licensing period.

Licenses are valid for one year, with the new licensing period beginning June 1, 2019. Download the application/renewal form online at (click on Form Center on the left and scroll down).

Fees through June 30 are $8 per altered cat (neutered/spayed) and $11 per unaltered cat.

Late fees are not charged to new residents or for newly acquired cats. Otherwise, the following late fees must be added to the regular fee for applications/renewals sent in subsequent months: July $2, August $3, September $4, October $5, November $6, December $7, January $8, February $9, March $10, April $11, May $12.

Mail the form, proof of rabies inoculation, check in the proper amount, and self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Jefferson Township Health Department, 1033 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ 07849.
