The Jefferson Township Police Department got to show off its talent on the links last week at the third annual Putt with the Police event at the Lake Hopatcong Golf Club. The event, organized by School Resource Officer Christopher Fabian and Records Clerk Erin Ackerly, brought out 56 golfers aged 8-14 for an evening of golf, pizza, ice cream, and fun.

Parents left their children with police for the evening, and then went to enjoy a date night at one of the local restaurants. The children created their own teams of three, four, or five players and set off onto the links. Police officers were stationed at each hole, while also playing on teams. This gave the children the opportunity to get to know the officers in their town, collect their trading cards, and further build community bonds. Once the golfing was complete, the children enjoyed a pizza party with ice cream for dessert.

The evening also saw the first glimpse of the new Pink Patch Project for October. Patches and t-shirts will be sold throughout the month of October to benefit Breast Cancer Research. Keep an eye out, as officers will be wearing the pink patches on their uniform throughout the month of October. Mayor Eric Wilsusen was on hand wearing one of the new t-shirts.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the JTPD’s DARE program and will also go to help fund other community events such as the upcoming Coffee with a Cop event, on October 2.
