The following is the latest communication from Jefferson Township Mayor Eric Wilsusen:
First I want to say how proud I am of our Jefferson community, it was a rough start for all of us to get used to this new concept of social isolation/distancing. But reports by our police department are showing residents are complying and I thank you all for doing so. Limiting our exposure now will hopefully get us back to normal sooner. Wash hands/ Stay Home!
Next, we all must take the time to thank all our first responders and health care workers on the front lines, it has not been easy for them. THANK YOU!
We have been hearing so much of what we can’t do. I think it is time to hear what we can do while we are all socially isolating. I have been seeing so many great things so many communities are doing. Time to get innovative! For instance, the community I live in, Lake Shawnee has a social committee and put out ideas entitled “non-social committee quarantine ideas”.
Some in our community are organizing people to make medical masks. Shout out to residents Eileen Doyle Grady, Linda Pierson and Gina Valerio, and anyone else on that front and to Melissa Henderson for putting the word out for the donation of Crocs for our health care workers, which are all in short supply.
Our recreation department is putting together some online recreation activities, I see some of our local gyms are putting up daily workout videos, our Jefferson Township Connect group is putting out information to stay mentally fit through all of this, and last we are organizing food donations to keep our two food pantries at Our Lady Star of The Sea RC Church in Lake Hopatcong and Milton United Methodist Church fully stocked for those in needs. More to follow.
In addition, our RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) program through our Senior Center has been making calls to our senior population to check-in, our Dial a Ride program is still making runs to the senior shopping hours at our local supermarkets. You can do your part by also checking in on the seniors in your own neighborhood.
So, send me your ideas to share or keep posting them to the Jefferson Township Moms and Dads Facebook page so we can share all of these great ideas for the benefit of all our residents and community.
Last, take advantage of the local businesses that are still open and please support them as much as possible. I stopped by a few of our businesses today and will continue to do so to thank them for being here for us.
Stay healthy Jefferson!
